Until now, manufacturers who wanted to target 5G had to choose between a few SoCs, from Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G to Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, via MediaTek Dimensity 1000. Well, now a new possibility is added, given that it has just been announced Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition is equipped with a new Qualcomm processor.
In particular, according to what reported by GSMArena is Android Authority, the device unveiled in China today 11 May 2020 mounts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G SoC, which has a 5G modem and is going to bring several benefits compared to Snapdragon 765 / Snapdragon 765G. In fact, the maximum frequency is increased from 2.4 to 2.8 GHz and the performance of the Adreno 620 GPU has been improved by about 15% (the rumors were right). In short, the “boost” is there and this processor could be used by manufacturers to guarantee slightly higher performance for mid-range 5G smartphones.
Going beyond the processor, the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition data sheet includes a 6.67-inch LCD display with Full HD + resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels), 20: 9 aspect ratio, 120 Hz refresh rate and hole for the dual front camera, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal memory, a quadruple 64MP rear camera (f / 1.7, Sony IMX686) + 8MP (ultra-wide, 120 degrees) + 5MP (for macro) + 2MP (for depth of field), a 20MP + 2MP front camera (for depth ) and a 4500 mAh battery with 30W fast charge support. For the rest, there is no shortage USB Type-C port, NFC, Dual SIM and headphone jack.
At the time of writing, the smartphone has only been announced for the Chinese market. The price is set at 1999 yuan (about 260 euros at the current exchange rate). Availability will start on May 14, 2020.
